Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim feels the stress during the three-one loss at opponents

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim admits he is unable to ignore from his disappointing statistics and believes it is understandable that Old Trafford icons are questioning him.

Earlier this week, United's record goalscorer Wayne Rooney told his program that "the soul has disappeared" from his former club.

Amorim has achieved just 18 wins from his 49 games in charge, including 9 out of 33 in the English top flight, where he has still to secure back-to-back consecutive victories.

While high-level club sources are adamant that Sir Jim Ratcliffe continues to be backing the manager, failure to beat newly promoted their next opponents on the weekend will spark renewed discussion about his role heading into the upcoming fortnight pause in domestic football.

"This is normal," commented the Portuguese coach, when asked about the former striker's observations. "One can't escape from the results."

"Furthermore you have the history from last season, [although] that period for me is irrelevant."

Fan Reaction and Current Circumstances

Manchester United's fans remained behind Amorim following last season's dismal performance, when they ended up fifteenth in the league - their poorest finish since the 1973/74 demotion season - and were beaten in the European final, in the hope that this season would be substantially better.

Amorim told supporters the position would change because he had greater time to work with his players without the weekly commitment of continental football.

That is not how the opening six fixtures have developed as United have endured 3 defeats so far and are currently fourteenth in the table.

Manager's Reaction to Concerns

When questioned what guarantees he could provide fans that the situation will improve, Amorim added: "This is not moment to say, it is the time to demonstrate."

"I review the games this season and, for me, they are completely different, but I have nothing to add at this moment."

  • Man Utd currently occupy the fourteenth position in the Premier League
  • Amorim has secured just 18 of his forty-nine matches in control
  • Wayne Rooney recently questioned the club's present direction
  • Saturday's fixture against Sunderland is important for Amorim's position
